The St Lucia Stars will defeat the Barbados Tridents to condemn them to their 5th loss at homeBET NOW
The Barbados Tridents and the St Lucia Stars will clash in the 24th match of the Caribbean Premier League for the year 2018. Both teams have failed to muster success for a sustained period of time and are teetering at the bottom of the league table with 2 wins apiece. The online cricket betting prediction is a win for the STARS who we at premium cricket think will defeat the Tridents to record their 3rd win of the series in this their last league stage match of the tournament.
The head to head battle between the two teams is firmly in the favor of the Tridents who have defeated the STARS on 8 out of the 10 previous meetings between the two teams. The Tridents have over the years been one of the most successful teams in the CPL but this season has been one to forget for them. The STARS started the season off in disastrous fashion and wins for them have been far few and in between. They will look to end the league stage on a high by recording a win here in this their last match before the playoffs. The chances for the STARS to qualify for the next stage is very remote with them having to win here plus expect the Tridents and the Patriots to lose all their remaining games. The Tridents, in contrast, can qualify for the quarters if they win all 3 remaining games. The only alarming factor for the Tridents is that they have lost all matches played at the Kensington Oval this year and this yet again is another home encounter.
The Barbados Tridents have failed to put in a full performance throughout the 40 overs and hence find themselves facing this predicament. Shai Hope is the leading run-scorer for the Tridents with 259 runs with the top score of 88. Australia’s Steven Smith is 2nd in the list with 185 runs with the top score of 63. He is slowly stitching together some useful performances as evidenced by his 40 plus score against the Guyana Amazon Warriors. Young Nicholas Pooran has excelled down the order scoring 165 runs while Dwayne Smith has looked good on and off at the top of the order. Martin Guptill made a determined 73 against the Tallawahs in a losing cause and has not looked his usual self at the top of the order. The Tridents bowling was taken to the cleaners by the Amazon Warriors with none of the bowlers being spared at the Oval. Mohammad Irfan and Wahab Riaz are the spearheads of the attack with Riaz leading the wicket-takers column with 8 wickets. Irfan who recorded near perfect T20 bowling figures against the Patriots capturing 2 wickets for just 1 run will look to make it difficult for the batsman to score runs with the bounce he generates from his big frame. Jason Holder and Chemar Holder have made no impression with the ball capturing just 3 wickets between them while going for plenty of runs. Ashley Nurse and Steven Smith have done a lot of bowling delivering off and leg spin quite effectively. But sadly, the bowling has lacked the spunk required to run teams over.
The St Lucia Stars have no option but to win here and then hope beyond hope. Captain Kieron Pollard and Andre Flecther have had a great season with the bat scoring 330 and 247 respectively. Pollard is striking at over 160 and has already hit a 100 and a 50. Fletcher is scoring at 120 per 100 balls with 80 as his top score. Australia’s opening batsman David Warner has made 178 batting at number 4 while Lendl Simmons has made 132 with the top score of 45. However, the rest of the batting has failed to fire, which has resulted in the STARS finding themselves in this position. In terms of the bowling, the honors have been shared around by 4 bowlers. Mitch McClenaghan is the leading bowler with 8 wickets with Kesrick Williams, Obed McCoy and leg-spinner Qais Ahmad all capturing 7 wickets apiece. However, all 4 bowlers along with Kieron Pollard, Rakheem Cornwall and left-arm spinner Kavem Hodge have been expensive resulting in the STARS being unable to stem the flow of runs. The STARS will hope that their top order batsmen will play with freedom now that there is no turning back for them plus hope that the bowlers can restrict the scoring through some inspired bowling.
Join us on the 2nd of September to witness what promises to be a keenly contested encounter between two teams that are at the bottom of the table but with different reasons to put up a good show. STARS have a chance of playing for pride while the Tridents have a chance of turning their fortunes around. Who will prevail? We at Premium Cricket think that the STARS will get the better of the Tridents.
